Running the engine to charge battery

The weather here in Walvis Bay is so grey this time of year (possibly any time of year but we’ve only been here for a month during summer/rainy season) that we had to run the inboard engine last night and this morning to keep the batteries charged. Normally the solar panel is enough to keep our battery bank topped up. The camping chest fridge stops ding power when the battery get below a certain voltage so that switches off at night but that’s okay. I’m hopeful that once we get to more tropical surroundings we’ll get by with just the solar panel.
